In 2008, The gardens at Haddon Lake House were filmed for a Channel 5 series with the perhaps unusual title of 'I Own Britain's Best Home & Garden'! Despite some initial reservations about the intrusive nature of filming, the experience proved memorable, exhausting and enlightening in equal measures. The crew of Talkback Thames, the production company, were a delight, and the presenter Laurence Llewellyn Bowen would win awards for being charming and erudite, under pressure, in a suit, in 80 degree heat. He was also kind enough to refer to the gardens as 'a pocket paradise on the Isle of Wight'!
The series took the form of a competition between the chosen gardens, each programme having a winner voted by the panel of three judges who toured the site during filming. Haddon Lake House was adjudged the winner of programme 5, and a plaque known as the NGS Gold Medal Award was presented at Hidcote Manor, 31 July 2008.
